A Special Dedication to the Memory of Dr. William M. Hunt, III
July 20, 1951 - December 31, 2025
Dr. William Martin Hunt III, M.D. (Bill), 74, was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted Jacksonville psychiatrist for more than forty years. He passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, following injuries sustained in a tragic hit-and-run motorcycle accident.
A board-certified psychiatrist, Bill was a proud alumnus of the Menninger Clinic’s residency program in Topeka, Kansas, where he refined his belief in thoughtful, relationship-centered psychiatric care. He was a graduate of Gainesville High School, The University of Florida, and The University of Miami School of Medicine. Following his medical training, he honorably served as a Major in the United States Air Force as a psychiatrist.
For decades, Bill served the Jacksonville community with quiet dedication, offering steady presence, careful listening, and deep respect for those entrusted to his care. Generations of individuals and families felt the ripple effects of his compassion, integrity, and commitment.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Ann Economus Hunt; his children, William Martin Hunt IV, Constance Hunt Worthy, and Alexander Leigh Hunt; and his cherished grandchildren. Bill was a lover of music, motorcycles, family, fun, and lifelong learning. To know him was to learn something new - and to feel deeply loved and accepted.
Bill will be so deeply missed, and his family is profoundly grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this time.

One of the very last things Bill said to Connie before leaving their house on Christmas Eve - just an hour or two before the accident - was that even in the most difficult of times, one of the single most important things we can do is to count our blessings.
He shared that one of the greatest blessings of his life had been seeing his family wrapped in the love of God through the San Jose Episcopal Day School and its community, and seeing how that love was being lived out in his grandson Niko’s education.
That’s why we believe that, in lieu of flowers, Bill would be honored if you chose to support the SJEDS Scholarship Fund - helping to ensure that children who might otherwise be unable to attend due to financial limitations are still able to receive the blessings, stability, and formation that come from such an extraordinary educational and spiritual environment.
It would mean so much to him to know that this love continues to reach future generations.
